Jubilee
2000
INTRODUCTION
This
Action Plan is based on the Apostolic Letter, Tertio Millennio Adveniente,
As the Third Millennium Draws Near, promulgated by John Paul II
on November 20th, 1994.
GENERAL
THEME
The
theme of the diocesan preparations and celebrations is: Jubilee
2000.
ANNUAL
THEMES
1996
We are Church
During
this year, attention will be given lo the rediscovery and appropriation
of the teaching of the Second Vatican Council and a raising of consciousness
of the movement of the Holy Spirit in the Church today.
This period is to be shaped by clarification and reflection upon
the ecclesiology of Vatican II and implications for ecumenical initiatives.
1997
United in Christ
Taking
up the invitation of Pope John Paul, the activities of this year
will be focused on the person of Jesus Christ and our incorporation
into his life through the sacrament of baptism.
This phase of the preparation for the millennium will provide all
members of the Church with the opportunity to discover a renewed
appreciation of their baptism.
By responding to the call to discipleship with fresh enthusiasm
and commitment (inspired by Mary as the model of faith), the ecumenical
dimensions of our common life in Christ will be highlighted.
1998
Open to the Spirit
The
activities of this year will be focused on the movement of the Holy
Spirit in the Church today.
A renewed appreciation of the presence and activity of the Holy
Spirit, and reflection upon the variety of gifts and charisms provided
by the Spirit for ministry in the Church and the world today will
shape this year.
Finally, a consideration the signs of hope present in the Church
and in the world will constitute this year's activities.
1999
Called to Conversion
The
final year of preparation, as the Holy Father notes, ought to be
seen in the context of a "great pilgrimage to the house of
the Father."
He also notes that this journey ought to be a "journey of authentic
conversion."
Therefore this period will be used for reflection on our experience
of sin, reconciliation, and healing.
A review of our history of grace and sin (individually and communally,
within the Church and in the world), will assist us in the process
of on-going conversion.
Finally, we will explore ways to celebrate God's reconciling action
and embrace a renewed commitment to social justice.
2000
Invited to the Feast
The
highlight of the jubilee year will be the celebration of the Eucharist
as the great act of praise and thanksgiving for the mystery of the
incarnation.
Catechesis will take place in preparation for the Eucharistic celebrations
in local parishes and in the diocese, in union with the universal
Church.
Finally, opportunities will be provided for reflection on the significance
of the millennium celebrations with a view to the future.
